Savanna narrowboat holidays and canal boat hire

Cruising Area and Places to Visit on the way

The River Wey was first made navigable for canal boats in 1653 and with the later addition of the Godalming Navigation in 1764, links Godalming with the River Thames. The navigation is now owned by the National Trust, who describe it as a “tranquil waterway running for nearly 20 miles through the heart of Surrey”.

At a relaxed pace the Royal River Thames is just over a day’s canal boating away from Guildford and Savanna is licensed to cruise the Thames from Easter to December each year. Together, the Thames and Wey give you over 140 miles of navigation to explore – more than enough for a week’s holiday. However, if you want to venture further then both the Kennet & Avon and Grand Union canals are easily reachable, albeit additional licences will be required for these.
